Sue Grafton does it again. I'm always amazed at her ability to write an exciting mystery that takes place in the 80s, that doesn't feel dated. My one quibble with this book is that one character near the end of the book, Cappi, doesn't kill Kinsey and Pinky at Pinky's house. He has shown throughout the book that he has no qualms about killing people in order to protect secrets (or even just because), so I felt his departure from that a little convenient.
While I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first, I will probably read the next one. One of my problems was the changing point of view every chapter or every other chapter. This led to a real choppiness in the flow of the story for me, and just when I'd start getting into a rhythm, I'd have to start again. I've read other books which have been written from several points of view, but for some reason, this didn't work as well as those.
I read this book back when it was first published, and I enjoyed it as much the second time around. What I didn't realize in the years since is that it they've written a sequel and additional books in the series. Really looking forward to continuing the story!
While Matched had me racing through the story, unable to put the book down, Crossed plodded along, and it seemed to take forever to get anywhere. I'm hoping that the third book is better, and answers the multitude of questions I now have.
What I liked: the narrator. I listened to the audiobook, and I felt that the narrator really nailed the characters, including the dog and other animals. Also, the initial premise with "noise" that only the men and animals generated, but not the women.
Another great edition in the Magical Cats series of cozy mysteries. Even though I'd hate the snow, I think I'd love to live in Mayville with Hercules and Owen. :)
i thoroughly enjoyed learning some of the engineering behind different yarns for different socks / patterns, and am looking forward to trying several of the patterns. Bought the Kindle version which looks great on my Kindle for iPad app. :)
A very quick, enjoyable thriller. Reminded me a little of those tv shows that start out with something happening and then switch scenes with the notation "3 hours earlier"...
The plot was good, and I didn't figure out the killer until the very end. That being said, for me the book was a little too graphic. For readers who aren't bothered by that, who enjoy a good serial killer thriller, you'll probably enjoy this book. For me, it was just okay. I probably won't read any more in this series.
Thoroughly enjoyed this installment that had a few twists I didn't see coming. Once again, it's good to see Robb fleshing out her characters more and more while treating me to a good murder mystery.
I got 3 chapters into it and just couldn't stand it anymore. Thankfully it was just borrowed from the library, because I would have hated wasting money on this...
Still enjoying this series. I love learning a little more about the characters with each successive book, and I love how much Roarke helps Eve out on her cases, even when she doesn't initially want his help. With all his toys, they're like superheroes for the 21st century. :)
A librarian and a couple of magical cats with a murder mystery thrown in. For a cozy mystery, what's not to love? I enjoyed this one, and plan to read her next book in the series, due out in September 2011 I believe.
Loved the cat, disliked the one-dimensional characters. I also think the author was trying too hard to make all the threads she was using tie together in one neat little bow at the end of the story. The romance between the two main characters seemed forced, for the sake of classifying the book as "romantic suspense." I had high hopes for this series, but I don't think I'll be reading any more.
