Lissylaine Reads

I've loved books and reading ever since I can remember and my great-grandmother read "Miss Suzy" to me over and over again. My tastes change over time, but tend toward paranormal romance, thrillers and mysteries, science fiction, some fantasy and urban fantasy, YA, and dystopia to name a few.

The Knife of Never Letting Go - Patrick Ness What I liked: the narrator. I listened to the audiobook, and I felt that the narrator really nailed the characters, including the dog and other animals. Also, the initial premise with "noise" that only the men and animals generated, but not the women.

What I disliked: just about everything else.

I knew this book was part of a trilogy going into it, so I expected a cliffhanger. I did not, however, expect for there to be absolutely NO hope at the end of the book. When the author killed off the dog, Manchee, I nearly quit listening. But I thought that there would be some redemption at the end. Sorry, but there wasn't. Todd killed a Spackle, had a little remorse, but that didn't factor into his "becoming a man"? The villains were over-the-top bad. Caricatures. Todd loses his dog, his father(s), his friend Viola, and there is NO HOPE at the end. I seriously doubt I will read the others in this series. An author that wants me to continue reading has to give me some reason, and there was none for me at the end.
