I really enjoyed Incarnate, the first book in this trilogy, and was afraid that this book would suffer middle book syndrome. I was glad that it did not; it was even better than the first. The world she builds is fascinating, both similar to ours and quite different at the same time. The story is well-written, and I can't wait to find out more. I just hate that it will be another year before that happens.
The mystery is okay, but these books for me are all about the relationships and the cats. I try not to rush through them to the end, because I so enjoy the journey. Looking forward to the next one. And I just love Hercules and Owen. They are written spot-on.
3.5 stars. Slow to begin, but picked up the pace. First novel I've read by this author, and I believe I'll read more. I may have found my replacement for Robin Cook.
3.5 stars. Enjoyed the story, but the writing could have used a little more polish. I kept stumbling over some sentences and having to re-read them because the cadence seemed off. It kept me guessing about where the story was going until the end. I will probably read this author again.
I struggled to make it 2/3 of the way through this book in 6 weeks. Couldn't bring myself to care about the characters, the story, anything. It is way too long and time to move on to something else.
This book definitely kept me on my toes, a thrilling rollercoaster ride. Like other reviewers, I didn't necessarily like either Nick or Amy, but I couldn't put it down, couldn't wait to see what came next.

This was a short story that did not live up to my expectations. Like another reviewer mentioned, I found it in need of some editing, and the story itself was fractured. I may still try to read another of Cantrell's books, because the concepts are interesting. I borrowed this through Amazon Prime.
It has been a while since I read a book that I didn't want to put down. And I'm a sucker for a good amnesia mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and hope that the author delivers more that are as exciting to read as this. I felt fully immersed in the story, felt the confusion, the fears, the triumphs, or supposed triumphs of Christine. Bravo.

I never tire of visiting Mayville. The people there, while often embroiled in a mystery, are ones I'd love to know personally. And Hercules and Owen are written so well - even though they each have a magical characteristic, the author nails the cats' personalities perfectly. More Hercules and Owen please! Looking forward to the next adventure.
Thank goodness this was an audiobook because I never would have made it all the way through, reading it myself. The concept sounded fascinating, and I was unfamiliar with the story of Hades and Persephone. Unfortunately, the first two-thirds of the book was boring and not enough to make up for the final, slightly more interesting third. I don't think I'll read any more in this series.
